A woman from Haryana, who has lived in Bengaluru for four years, posted her thoughts about the city on Reddit. She called Bengaluru “overrated” and said the people were “rude.” She also described areas like Varthur as a “lifeless concrete jungle,” pointing out the poor roads, lack of amenities, and absence of culture. Her experience was mainly around tech parks, and she felt disconnected from the city’s true culture.

Things changed when she moved to Padmanabhanagar, in the southwest part of Bengaluru. She said this area was more peaceful and welcoming, even though it wasn’t the typical spot for a “North techie” like herself. She appreciated how the local community had a rich cultural vibe and a progressive mindset. Her husband, a local, helped her connect with many residents. She was impressed by the well educated families, many of whom had children studying or working abroad. The culture she found in Padmanabhanagar, which she felt was often idealized in media, was real and alive, and she felt lucky to be a part of it.

The woman’s post got mixed reactions. Some locals from southern Bengaluru were concerned that her praise could bring too much attention to the area. One person even suggested she delete the post, saying that the peaceful atmosphere should be kept intact. They pointed out that areas like Indiranagar and Koramangala were better suited for tech workers and suggested that outsiders should stick to those places. Despite the criticism, others agreed with her and appreciated the authenticity and strong sense of community in parts of Bengaluru that aren’t dominated by tech hubs.
