Waving Black Flag at CM Not Defamatory or Illegal, Rules Kerala High Court

The Kerala High Court has dropped the charges against three people who waved black flags at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s convoy in 2017. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas ruled that such protests are neither illegal nor defamatory, stating that waving a black flag is a legitimate form of protest and does not disrupt public duties.

In Thiruvananthapuram, youth groups from the opposition protested against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, calling for him to resign over some controversial comments and supposed police ties. Things got wild with clashes against the cops, resulting in water cannons and tear gas being used, and several people getting arrested.
