Around 200 women living at the Saraswati Hostel in Ranchi, Jharkhand, are locked inside because of a land dispute. The trouble started when a local strongman closed the hostel’s dining area, cutting off meals for the residents.

The conflict revolves around who owns the hostel property, which was bought from Ajay Kachhap, who passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic. After his death, his widow, Lali, claimed that the original sale price was too low and has been asking for more money from the hostel management.

Reports say Lali’s associates have previously shut down the hostel and disrupted its operations when their demands weren’t met. Now, the women and staff are stuck inside, and even the cook is trapped in the dining hall.

People in the neighborhood are worried about these events happening openly, while local authorities have yet to step in to fix the situation.
