PM Modi shared the news on social media, saying, “Our government has taken another big decision to make school education as accessible as possible.” He highlighted the benefits of the decision for students and job creation.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by PM Modi, approved the establishment of 85 new KVs under the Civil/Defence sector, as well as the expansion of an existing KV in Shivamogga, Karnataka. This expansion will add two more sections to each class to accommodate the children of Central Government employees. The project is estimated to cost ₹5,872.08 crore over eight years, with ₹2,862.71 crore for capital costs and ₹3,009.37 crore for operational expenses.
India currently has 1,256 operational KVs, including three abroad—in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran. With the new additions, around 82,560 students are expected to benefit. The initiative will also create 5,388 permanent jobs, with each fully established KV providing 63 positions. Moreover, the construction of these new schools will create additional job opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers in various fields.
This initiative is set to expand access to quality education while also providing significant employment opportunities, benefiting both the education and economy of India.
