Meet Adhish R. Wali, the first Indian making headlines as a member of the London Youth Council. This 24-year-old recently took the stage at the UK Parliament, delivering his debut speech in Kannada, and it was a proud moment for Karnataka and his hometown, Bidar.

In his talk on ‘Climate Migration – UK Government Policy’, Adhish didn’t hold back. He kicked things off by sharing vachanas from Basaveshwara, a cool social reformer from the 12th century. It’s awesome to see someone blend ancient wisdom with today’s issues, right? He even translated those vachanas into English so everyone could grasp the deeper meaning.

Adhish pointed out the rising issue of climate-driven migration and stressed that our policies need to keep up. Just like Basavanna preached equality and acceptance, he reminded us that society today has to support those forced to leave their homes because of environmental changes. It’s a big deal since the climate crisis is only getting worse.

Adhish isn’t just about words; he’s also the Honorary Youth Convenor for the UK with the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. His speech was a heartfelt call to action, urging us to be more inclusive and compassionate as we face these tough challenges. It’s inspiring to see young leaders like him stepping up and connecting the dots between ancient wisdom and today’s pressing issues.
