In a tragic event in Vasai, Maharashtra, a couple was hit by a speeding car while taking a late-night walk with their dog. The incident occurred on November 25, around 11:30 p.m., in the Yashwant Smart City area. Kartik Gor, 36, and Riddhi Pandya, 35, were walking their Labrador, Raja, when a WagonR crashed into them from behind. The impact sent them tumbling, and they got trapped under the car. Passersby quickly came to help.
The driver, Santosh Shinde, took the couple to a nearby hospital. Kartik suffered a ligament tear in his right leg and a spinal injury, while Riddhi had a fractured rib and an injury to her right hand. Although Raja initially limped away from the scene, he died from his injuries three days later. “Raja was shocked to see us under the car. While we were in the hospital, he stopped eating. He passed away on November 28,” said Kartik, mourning the loss of their dog.
The couple has expressed frustration over the delay in filing a complaint. An FIR was registered two days after the accident. “We need action against the accused,” Kartik said. Police have charged Santosh Shinde with rash driving and endangerment to life under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita and the Motor Vehicles Act. A senior police official confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
