The Kerala State Government has launched a major mission in Wayanad to help both people and domestic animals affected by landslides. Minister for Dairy Development J. Chinchurani talked about this effort during the opening of the International Livestock Conclave at Pookode Veterinary College in Wayanad. The landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmala caused serious damage to the dairy farming sector, killing both people and animals, and harming the local environment. As a result, rehabilitating these areas is the government’s top priority.
Reconstruction work in Wayanad is progressing quickly. The International Livestock Conclave, which will last for ten days, aims to tackle several challenges facing dairy farming, offering practical solutions. Along with addressing specific problems in the sector, the conclave will feature programs designed to help grow the dairy industry through entrepreneurship. Minister Chinchurani also expressed hope that the central government would take a caring approach to the rehabilitation plan submitted for the disaster-affected regions.
The Vice-Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Anil K S, also attended the event and pointed out that the university recently ranked fourth in the Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework (KIRF), which rates the academic performance of higher education institutions. Additionally, the top two positions in the Agricultural and Allied College category were awarded to Pookode and Mannuthy Veterinary Colleges.
