India has stepped up its border security after reports that Bangladesh has deployed Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones near West Bengal. The drones are being operated by the Bangladesh Army’s 67th division for surveillance and reconnaissance. While Bangladesh claims the deployment is a defense measure, India is concerned about the strategic importance of these drones in such a sensitive area.

Intelligence reports suggest that political instability in Bangladesh, especially after the fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government, has allowed extremist groups to gain ground near the Indian border. Terrorist organizations and smuggling rings are reportedly using the situation to infiltrate India. A senior Indian intelligence officer stressed that with the drone deployment and rising anti-India activities, India must stay alert.

Earlier this year, Bangladesh acquired the Bayraktar TB2 drones, which have boosted its military capabilities, especially for surveillance and light strike missions. Of the twelve drones ordered, six are already operational, increasing India’s concerns. The drones are seen as a key asset in the ongoing unrest and political shifts in Bangladesh.

In response, India’s armed forces are on high alert, monitoring the situation closely. While India has advanced drones like the Heron TP, the country is also boosting counter-drone operations in sensitive border areas. A senior defense official confirmed that India is ready to take necessary measures to protect its borders. India is also working closely with international partners and sharing intelligence to stay updated on developments in Bangladesh.
