Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu made a splash at the Tirumala Temple on Friday, kicking off the annual Brahmotsavams in a big way. He and his wife showed up with beautiful silk robes, or “pattu vastrams,” to offer to Lord Venkateswara, which was the highlight of the ceremony.

As they walked into the temple, they carried the silk robes on a golden plate, adding some serious flair to the occasion. After the offering, Naidu got a sacred thread, the Parivattam, from the temple’s head priests and even put on the traditional Thirunaamam on his forehead. It was a big deal for him, and local temple officials, like TTD Executive Officer Shyamala Rao, gave him loads of honors, including Sri Vari’s Sesha Vastram.

Allegations of Laddu Quality

Earlier that day, the Supreme Court dropped a major surprise by ordering a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to dig into some serious claims about the temple’s famous laddu prasadam. Apparently, the previous government might have used some subpar ghee that had animal fat in it for these cherished offerings.

The SIT will include a mix of CBI folks and state police, plus someone from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), showing they mean business. The Supreme Court pointed out how these allegations could really hurt devotees’ feelings worldwide, stressing the need for transparency and integrity in such sacred practices. They even said the CBI director will be keeping a close eye on things. It’s a lot to take in, and this is definitely a huge issue for the temple and its followers.
