On Friday, Bengaluru police made a major drug bust, seizing 318 kilograms of ganja worth ₹3.2 crore in the Govindapura area. Officers had received a tip-off and intercepted three people transporting the drugs in a car. The suspects were arrested right away, and the car was seized as evidence. Authorities believe the drugs were smuggled into the city to meet the higher demand for narcotics during the New Year celebrations.

The main suspect, a man from Kerala, has a criminal record for drug trafficking and is facing several charges in his home state. The police are investigating the smuggling operation further, suspecting it may be part of a larger network supplying drugs to Bengaluru.

This bust adds to a series of drug-related operations in Bengaluru. In October, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and the Narcotics Control Unit uncovered a large drug trafficking operation at the city’s Foreign Post Office, where they found parcels with illicit substances from several countries. The Narcotics Unit has been actively working on several drug trafficking cases this year, making numerous arrests. With New Year approaching, authorities are stepping up efforts to prevent more drug crimes in the city.
