Agriculture Minister P. Prasad opened a brand-new Sewage Treatment Plant right in the Alappuzha General Hospital compound. This isn’t just any facility; it’s part of a bigger plan—the Malinya Mukta Nava Keralam campaign—aiming for a garbage-free Kerala by March 31, 2025.

At the launch, Prasad really hit home about the waste management issues we’re facing, calling for tougher laws against folks who dump trash on the streets and in public spots. He’s all about getting everyone—locals and officials—on board to manage waste better.

The STP set the Alappuzha municipality back ₹3.45 crore and can treat a massive 2.40 lakh litres of wastewater every day. It uses some cool electrocoagulation tech and will process wastewater from different hospital facilities, making sure it meets Pollution Control Board standards. Plus, there’s even an ultra-filtration unit to recycle treated water for flushing toilets!

It’s awesome to see local leaders like P.P. Chitharanjan, MLA, and Alappuzha’s municipal chairperson K.K. Jayamma, backing these efforts. Moving forward, it’s clear that getting the community involved is key to make our environment cleaner and greener.
