The agreement with the Tamil Nadu government outlines a total investment of ₹9,000 crore for the project, which will be rolled out in phases. The first phase will involve ₹914 crore to set up the manufacturing plant, which will occupy 52,000 square meters on a larger 19,02,022.5-square-meter site. Construction is expected to take around 15 months, with the factory aiming to hire approximately 1,500 people. The plant’s annual production capacity is expected to exceed 2.5 lakh units, with gradual increases over the next 5 to 7 years.

This new plant will be a key facility for Tata Motors, focusing on the production of next-generation vehicles, including electric and luxury models for both the Tata and JLR brands. The company also plans to build a local supplier base to enhance manufacturing efficiency and strengthen the supply chain.

At a recent event in Chennai, JLR officials shared opportunities for businesses to collaborate, discussing procurement strategies, technological innovations, and sustainability efforts. JLR operates globally, with major facilities in the UK, the US, India, China, and other countries. The company produces vehicles under famous brands like Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar. It also manufactures custom vehicles through its Special Vehicle Operations division and maintains a Classic Vehicles programme. Tata Motors’ existing plant in Pune assembles models such as the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport.
