India, being the world’s second-largest smartphone market and third-largest automobile market, is a key area of focus for MediaTek. The company already dominates India’s smartphone chipset market, holding a 54% market share in the first half of 2024. Additionally, 64% of all 5G smartphones under ₹30,000 in India are powered by MediaTek chipsets.
MediaTek’s Vice President of Global Marketing, Finbarr Moynihan, pointed out the company’s strong R&D presence in India and its role in driving innovation. He emphasized that India is vital to MediaTek’s global strategy, thanks to its research and development capabilities. In the four-wheeler market, MediaTek has teamed up with Indian companies like Tata Motors and Skoda Auto to bring its Dimensity Automotive platform to vehicles such as Tata’s Punch.eV and Skoda’s Slavia. In the two-wheeler sector, MediaTek is collaborating with JioThings, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms, to develop advanced technology for electric vehicles (EVs) like the Kinetic Green Flex and Green E-Luna. This partnership aims to strengthen India’s EV ecosystem by combining MediaTek’s chipsets with JioThings’ digital solutions for smarter two-wheelers.
