Jagdish Singh Patani, father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, was allegedly tricked out of Rs 25 lakh by a group of scammers who promised him a high-ranking government position. Patani, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, was introduced to the fraudsters by an acquaintance, Shivendra Pratap Singh. The scammers, including Diwakar Garg and Acharya Jayaprakash, claimed they had strong political connections and offered Patani a prestigious job in a government commission, like chairman or vice-chairman.
Believing their promises, Patani handed over Rs 25 lakh, Rs 5 lakh in cash and Rs 20 lakh through transfers to three different bank accounts. However, after three months of no progress, Patani asked for his money back. Instead of getting a refund, he was threatened and intimidated by the scammers. To make their story seem more convincing, they introduced another person named “Himanshu,” who claimed to be an “officer on special duty,” to further trick Patani into believing they had political power.
Realizing he had been scammed, Patani filed a police complaint, which led to the registration of an FIR. The suspects have been charged with cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion. The police are investigating the case, but no arrests have been made yet.
