After a successful Diwali, traders in India are now focusing on the upcoming wedding season, which kicks off with Dev Uthani Ekadashi on November 12 and continues until December 16. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimates that around 48 lakh weddings will take place, generating nearly ₹6 lakh crore in sales. Last year, about 35 lakh weddings brought in ₹4.25 lakh crore.

This year’s wedding season has more lucky dates, with 18 available compared to 11 last year. This increase is expected to boost business significantly. In Delhi alone, around 4.5 lakh weddings are predicted. According to Acharya Durgesh Tare, who is part of CAIT’s Veda and Spiritual Committee, the lucky wedding dates include November 12, 13, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25, 26, 28, and 29, along with December 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16. There will be a break of about a month before the wedding season resumes from mid-January to March 2025.

CAIT’s business forecasts are based on talks with major businesses in 75 cities focused on wedding-related products and services. Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT’s Secretary General and MP from Chandni Chowk, pointed out a shift in shopping habits, noting that more people are choosing Indian products over foreign ones. This trend reflects the success of initiatives like ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’

While these estimates consider lucky dates, many weddings will still occur on other days. Wedding expenses cover a wide range of goods and services, including clothing, jewelry, electronics, and catering. A noticeable trend is the increasing spending on social media services related to weddings.
