YouTube Shopping kicked off in India on Friday, giving video creators new ways to earn money. This affiliate marketing program, which started in South Korea and the US, lets eligible creators tag brands in their videos.
At launch, YouTube Shopping has partnered with two big e-commerce sites: Flipkart and Myntra. You can access this feature on the web, mobile apps, and connected TVs for regular videos, livestreams, and Shorts.
YouTube Shopping Expanded to Creators in India
Starting Friday, video creators can apply for YouTube Shopping. Once approved, channels can tag products and stores in their videos, Shorts, or livestreams. Viewers can check out these products without leaving the video. When viewers click on the links and buy something from the retailer’s site, creators earn a commission on the full sale. The commission rate shows up during the tagging process, and creators can tag up to 30 products in one video.
YouTube Shopping Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, a creator’s channel must be part of the YouTube Partner Program, based in India, and have over 10,000 subscribers. Channels aimed at kids or that are music channels can’t join. Additionally, channels with Community Guideline Strikes in sensitive areas cannot participate in the YouTube Shopping program. Tags for products won’t show up on videos with claimed content.

Qualified YouTube channels can sign up for the YouTube Shopping program through the YouTube Studio website.
