RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has booted 10 doctors amid some serious accusations. These docs are said to have created a toxic vibe, using ragging and intimidation against their colleagues.

At a recent meeting, it was decided that these doctors, like Saurabh Pal and Ashish Pandey, who’s even had a run-in with the CBI, have to vacate their hostel within 72 hours. They even got notices sent to their homes. And that’s not all, 59 others, including interns and some staff, are temporarily suspended as part of this whole crackdown.

Why This Matters

So, what sparked this drastic action? It all started with some scary reports of a “threat culture” at the hospital. Tons of students spoke up about harassment that went way beyond the usual joking around. The claims include being pressured into political activities and even threats of messing with their academic records. Some students said they were humiliated in public areas or forced to run weird errands, like fetching alcohol at odd hours, definitely not what you’d expect in a learning environment!

The investigation kicked off after a tragic incident earlier this year involving the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor, which really shone a light on safety and the overall culture in medical schools around here. With 43 people already expelled from the hostel, the council is serious about getting to the bottom of this and making necessary changes.

This isn’t just about punishing the bad apples; it’s about making RG Kar Hospital a safer and more respectful place for everyone. The futures of a lot of budding doctors are at stake, and it’s high time the hospital took a solid stand against this unacceptable behavior.
